It was a random morning of 2019 for me

I belong to a middle class family and hence we did not have many resources at home. Probably 2 mobile phones for my mother and father and my father’s work laptop that’s all. I was rarely given access to the laptop because of obvious reasons. It was not mine and it was not something I could just randomly mess around with. And this is how my story began

One day I decided to make those cute puppy eyes and finally get my father to agree to give me the laptop. The laptop in itself was nothing high spec. 2 GB ram intel pentium processor and some storage. But to me that thing felt like a whole new world

I opened YouTube and at first I was just binging Minecraft videos like any other kid would. But one video in particular intrigued me. It was a video tutorial on the programming language Java. I did not know what a programming language is what java is or basically anything that was going on in the video  but that did not stop me. I kept my search on YouTube going on

That day I learnt the basics of programming. What coding is how software works and A LOT of jargon which I probably did not fully understand back then. But it still felt interesting. It felt like there was something behind the screen which I had never seen before. Something that made all the apps games and software actually work

I then stumbled upon a video tutorial playlist which was again on Java. That playlist guided me on installing IntelliJ installing the Java JDK setting everything up and running my first hello world. Well at that time not everything made sense to me but I kept going with the flow

I still remember typing that large codeblock of Java just to print hello world to the terminal and then running around the house in sheer happiness because that felt like I had found the cure to cancer. Obviously I had not but in that moment it genuinely felt that big

It was the first time I felt like I could tell a computer what to do and it would actually listen. I could write something run it and see it come alive on the screen. That feeling was different. It made technology feel less like magic and more like something I could learn and maybe even control someday

Little did I know I had so so much more ahead of me. That playlist was my first ever introduction to programming and Java became my first ever coding language. That old 2 GB ram laptop became the starting point of everything

I don’t think I fully understood what had happened that day. I was just a kid who got access to a laptop and somehow ended up writing Java instead of just watching Minecraft videos (I watched those later on as well ;D). But looking back now that random morning changed a lot for me

And I think this blog is where I want to start writing all of that down
